Conditioning your Tap Water

October 23, 2016MaintenanceCharles

Tap water is not suitable for freshwater fish unless it has been conditioned first. This is because tap water is known to contain a range of chemicals and other substances which can be harmful for your fish, including:

  • Fertilisers and nitrates
  • Chlorine and chloramines
  • Fluoride
  • Magnesium and calcium
  • Heavy metals

How to Condition your Tap Water Quickly

Luckily it is very easy to condition your tap water. All you need to do is mix some water conditioner in to the tap water before it is added to the aquarium.

To make life even simpler, not only can this product be purchased below, it has also been tested extensively in the Norrom Aquarium so that we can be sure it will deliver consistently good results.

Description

Tap water typically contains nasty chemicals such as chlorine, chloramines and heavy metals which are all toxic to fish (see Conditioning your Tap Water for more information).

This clever liquid by API instantly conditions tap water to eliminate toxic chemicals as well as helping to protect fish from stress that can be experienced during handling, cleaning or vigorous water changes.

This water conditioning liquid also contains a special aloe vera stress coat to replenish the natural protection of ‘slime’ found on fish skin.

It is completely safe for freshwater fish, marine fish, invertebrates and plants.

After filling your new aquarium with water for the first time, even after using tap water conditioner, it will not be ready for fish to live in until the aquarium has ‘cycled’. Click here to learn about cycling your aquarium.
